Project Description

The amphitheater has served as a campfire program arena to inform visitors of the history of Lake Tahoe’s natural wonders, fish and wildlife, and unique environment. It has been a venue for many awards ceremonies and Lake Tahoe Community College Commencements.

In the fall of 2004, work commenced on reconstruction of the facility.  Improvements included a reduction in seating capacity to make a more intimate setting, refurbishing the wood benches, constructing a grass seating area, stone faced retaining walls, ADA accessibility improvements, updated electrical, and audio/video enhancements. The stage area was also reconstructed with a retractable screen system to enhance the scenic backdrop of Mt. Tallac, Taylor Creek Marsh and Lake Tahoe. This $450,000 project was the second for improvements to the Visitor Center which was also the design responsibility of JWA. The prior project included reconstruction of the Visitor Center Building, parking lot and utility improvements, and installation of BMPs.
